History Campo alle Serpi

The monastery was built around 1750 on the estate of the Cancilieri family. The monasteries were farmers with a mixed company, who were accountable to the bishop. Around 1950 there were no more monastic people. Until the 1970s, the house was leased as a farmhouse with agricultural exploitation and then partially rented until 1995. Fortunately, practically no structural changes have been made. The property is currently a beautiful private house with about 500 square meters spread over two floors; The ground floor is designed as a living room with a large kitchen and living room, vaulted ceilings and original terracotta floors with an external loggia; most bedrooms and bathrooms are located on the first floor. The house offers a main apartment and three independent suites that can be used together or separately thanks to a flexible layout. Two fireplaces and two kitchens with large living and dining areas create a rustic and cozy atmosphere. A very prestigious living room of 55 m2 invites you to relax and celebrate with friends or family. The outdoor area offers a veranda with a terrace of 60 m2.

Campo alle Serpi in 1995 just before the restoration

After years of partial vacancy, the house was sold in 1996 and carefully restored by the new owners, so that the characteristic atmosphere of the gentleman’s farm is very nicely preserved. This can be seen on the terracotta floors, the beamed ceilings and the walls in natural stone. Architectural features can be found that are otherwise not found in country houses in the area. E.g. the so-called cappucci, which have been processed as bulges and the vaulted ceilings, or the special vaulted ceiling in the former refectory, a construction that is otherwise only found in a few palaces in Florence. This gives this building a serene atmosphere and makes you feel like you are really in Italy from the first moment!
